South Place Hotel

An unexpected hotel, packed with hidden treasures. Aimed at a sophisticated city audience, we have created an authentic and playful experience. South Place Hotel, in the City of London, marked the first hotel in the D&D portfolio and a fresh design challenge in which gastronomy plays a key part.

The design of the guest rooms needed to respond to a well-travelled, well-informed business audience, with visitors coming in from many different parts of the world. The style presents a balance of luxury and comfort, with an elegant palette of materials overlaid with unique and colourful furniture and art.

The provision of amenities to an opulent level was vital, with spacious bathrooms, integrated bars and substantial desks. Feature lighting here and in the communal areas also became an important motif, adding drama and character. The practice collaborated with two young galleries that helped procure art for the hotel. Much of the artwork and lighting are bespoke, having been commissioned especially for South Place Hotel.
