Located in the heart of Melbourne, Lanson Place Melbourne hotel is Conran and Partners first Australian hospitality project, where heritage meets modernity in a space that reflects the city’s vibrant character.
Conran and Partners were entrusted to design the interiors of the carefully restored Salvation Army Printing Works, seamlessly integrating it with a contemporary tower to offer both short and long- stay accommodation.
The design journey began with close collaboration between Conran and Partners, the client, and brand to adapt their core concept of creating a “home away from home” while ensuring the design resonates with Melbourne’s unique identity.
A key design pillar was fostering community spirit, aiming to connect hotel residents with both each other’s and the local neighbourhood. Dynamic areas encourage both social interaction and productivity, offering an inspiring and energising atmosphere, while private spaces for quiet reflection provide a peaceful retreat from the more lively, public spaces.
The ground-floor living room serves as a vibrant shared space for residents and locals to gather, while more private, resident-only amenities, such as the lounge, pool, and spa, are located on the first floor.
The design honours the building’s rich history while embracing contemporary elegance, striking a balance between timeless charm and refined luxury. Drawing inspiration from the building’s print house
heritage, deep blues and bold panda marble create striking focal points, complemented by a neutral palette that brings tranquillity.
In curating the guest experience, Conran and Partners thoughtfully designed distinct spaces to cater to a range of profiles and needs, recognising the overlap between tourism and business.
