Rüya, meaning ‘dream’ in Turkish, is a new Anatolian dining concept designed by Conran and Partners that has opened its first restaurant in Europe in London’s Mayfair.

The restaurant and bar is the brainchild of Turkish restaurateur Umut Özkanca, backed by d.ream Restaurant Entertainment and Management Group). Rüya Mayfair opened on 7 June 2018. Conran and Partners created the design of the first Rüya in Dubai, UAE which opened in November
2016.

Arranged across 560m², the venue has a capacity of around 190 guests, including a 110-cover restaurant, a private dining room and a chef’s table, as well as a lounge bar. The restaurant is in a long linear space animated by areas of activity starting with the bar, the open kitchen and a feature
bread oven.

Rüya is the realisation of Umut’s dream to open a sophisticated, international-standard restaurant bringing Anatolian cuisine to the rest of the world. Our interpretation of this captures the fascinating history and craftsmanship of the region reaching from Ottoman Empires and before to today. The idea is to have a DNA that runs through all of the sites so they are recognizable as part of the concept but have a strong identity of their own based on the site and, of course, their locality.”

Adjacent to the bar is the open kitchen with a large charcoal grill where all activity is visible to diners. It was always a key part of the concept to make the cooking and food production part of the experience and bring lots of energy to the room. The main dining room is down two steps and under a feature archway – evocative of Byzantine architecture – where Turkish flatbread is cooked in a wood-fired bread oven. There is also a display wall with alembics, small, distinctive distilleries which are used to make Raki, the traditional Turkish spirit.
