Stitching a new development into the existing fabric
The new apartment buildings blend old with new to seamlessly connect with the existing townscape.

Porthleven was originally a harbour of refuge, when this part of the Cornish coastline was a black spot for wrecks in the days of sail. Today, it is an idyllic coastal town with a well-used fishing port, enveloped by miles of green fields. The Trevor Osborne Property Group asked Conran and Partners to design a development of fifteen apartments.

The site, just off the harbour quayside, is in a Conservation Area and a previous application by others had been refused at appeal on design grounds.

Our considered design presents a juxtaposition of old and new with each adopting a different but complimentary palette of materials.

The chosen brickwork and roof tiles mirror that of the towns’ existing buildings and the parish church.

The design uses deep windows and south-west facing balconies and terraces to make best use of the views out over the harbour.
