Described by Tatler as a sleek cocktail bar crossed with a Wes Anderson film set, the new Peninsula offers a more accessible glimpse into the iconic brand.

Incorporated in 1866, The Peninsula is the world’s leading luxury hotel brand. Peninsula asked Conran and Partners to update and redesign its successful Peninsula Boutique concept, which was unveiled in its flagship Hong Kong hotel in 2021.

The Peninsula Boutique offers a refined yet approachable experience, from which visitors can take a piece of the Peninsula brand home. Located within The Peninsula Hong Kong, the 3,500 square foot open-plan emporium houses a central space showcasing luxury teas, seasonal gifts, chocolates and baked treats, with an area for tasting teas.

The design concept invokes the timeless combination of the tradition and glamour of the hotel, while adding a fresh, distinctly modern, innovative twist that also appeals to young urban consumers.

The spacious interior is arranged over three zones, each with its own distinctive ambiance, with subtle transitions between them.

The design concept remains true to The Peninsula’s meticulous brand: a rich, classic palette, elegant lines, luxury materials and artisanal touches. Additional elements have been introduced to contemporise the overall experience, mixing classic and minimal aesthetics in a complementary manner that emphasises approachable luxury.

Designated counters, which offer a variety of experiences, such as chocolate tasting and cake gift wrapping, work as a family of units, with a soft, yet geometric semi-circle to invite circulation, breaking down the barriers between staff and customer.

Studio Appétit add splashes of colour and drama, fusing art, food and community.

To the right side sits the pop-up brand space which is set off against the immersive green and coral tones with a beautiful gold mesh ceiling and white marble floor. Assouline, a luxury publisher in fashion, design, travel and culture, is the first brand to take over the space.

We have also been commissioned to develop a brand manual for the future roll out of the new design concept, and are subsequently designing the Boutique at the new London hotel (opening 2022).
