At The Guesthouse the emphasis is upon the spacious and inviting guest rooms and suites, which have the quality and feel of beautifully crafted and carefully curated apartments.

The Guesthouse sits close to the Vienna State Opera and the Albertina Museum and is surrounded by galleries, landmark buildings and parks, all in easy walking distance.

From the hotel itself, the skyline offers a mesmerising panorama, so we have included generous window seats, sofas and armchairs in rooms to encourage guests to look out across the vista.

The crafted interiors of the 39 rooms and suites take inspiration from the rich design history of the city itself, drawing upon the influence of both the pioneering Vienna Secession movement and Austrian mid-century designers. The level of finish and detailing is all-important, within a sophisticated urban aesthetic.

Along with many bespoke elements, there is a highly curated approach to the art and furnishings, including armchairs by Friedrich Kiesler and crockery and china from Lilien Porzellan. The choice of materials throughout reflects the importance of craft and texture, with a palette of oak, brass and marble within a luxurious and comfortable setting.

At the top of the hotel we have created a series of duplex spaces, with mezzanines looking down on the sitting rooms, offering variety within the rooms and suites.

At the heart of the building is the ground floor, designed as much as a neighbourhood destination in its own right as a hotel restaurant, which creates a strong link with the surrounding city space. It is filled – day and night – with local people who have come to regard it as a key meeting place for business and pleasure.

We also designed an in-house brasserie and bakery, drawing inspiration from the famous coffee shops and cafes of the city. Here, the materiality and lighting design in particular are key elements within a
crafted, modern approach.

‘Personally, I love to sit in my room, look out of the window and engage with Vienna, that sense of being part of the city is very important.’
