Hotel ICON is located along the southern edge of the Tsim Sha Tsu in Hong Kong’s Kowloon district and is the Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s global centre for excellence in hospitality and tourism education.
Conran and Partners was approached to design the key F+B areas for the new hotel, including the all-day dining space and the top floor which includes a fine dining destination restaurant and bar as well as private dining rooms, the executive floor reception and business centre.

Buffet restaurants, although not highly regarded in Europe, are well loved in Asia and typically of high quality. Inspired by the iconic wet markets of Hong Kong, the guiding principle of our design for The Market was to lead guests through the food islands and buffet counters as they enter the space to offer a sensual experience of attractive and abundant produce before they sit down to eat.
The Market balances relaxed and friendly service with a fantastic high-quality food offering and has been titled the best buffet dining experience in Hong Kong by the highly regarded ‘Open Rice’ website for eight consecutive years.

Above & Beyond, on the 28th floor of the building, is a sophisticated, Michelin-starred destination restaurant and bar offering stunning views over Hong Kong Island. The concept for this floor, which also includes three special private function spaces, a boardroom and executive floor reception, was to create a members’ club feel within the hotel.
The bar area offers the feel of a club room, with comfortable and iconic furniture pieces and carefully curated shelves. The restaurant serves high-end Chinese cuisine, but the design is intentionally international.

Two of the function rooms have living rooms adjacent to the dining space to create a domestic atmosphere and an added element of luxury, including a fireplace with artwork placed above as if in a modern country home.
Originally, Hotel ICON was designed as part of the Polytechnic University’s teaching facilities for students on hotel management courses. However, it quickly became one of the most respected hotels in Hong Kong and in 2020 was voted Trip Advisor’s #3 hotel in Hong Kong.
