Custom House

We refurbished this distinctive 1930s Art Deco building, formerly a customs office; into a selection of bars, restaurants and a deli/bakery on a prime waterfront location in Copenhagen.

Traditional Danish tugboats formed the concept for the House Bar and Grill; with warm timber cladding encasing the interior, soft leather coating the bar counter and aubergine leather banquet fluting seating.

The entrance offers an engaging vista though the ground floor restaurant to the lapping water of Copenhagen’s harbour. The most high-end of the restaurant offers, the design for Bacino is elegant and refined. The light and airy dining room, serving modern Italian food, contrasts with the other spaces having selected a very light, modern palette.

Custom House Bar and Grill is a restaurant for the all day, every day meal. It is a relaxed space, but with flare and style. A suspended well-lacquered Danish Tugboat is a cheeky nod to the relation to the harbour. An open kitchen adds to the relaxed foody atmosphere.

Ebisu, situated on the first floor, is an intimate Japanese Sushi restaurant that cleverly uses the small space to its advantage, creating a dark and dramatic ambiance. Real kimono fabric alludes to Japanese design, but with Danish undercurrent.

The deli was instigated to give it a very foody feel, where restaurant customers could then buy the produce that they have sampled. It relates to the public realm by opening out onto the street and showing it.s produce and the smell of freshly baked bread.
