Dean Gardens
A2Dominion/ Rydon
Architecture

Conran and Partners was invited to work on the regeneration of Dean Gardens – also known as Sherwood Close – a large Seventies-era housing estate in West Ealing. The existing estate is riddled with problems stemming from its poor design and construction, including high crime rates and poor living standards. Ealing Council asked us to draw on our experience with the nearby Green Man Lane to suggest ways to turn Sherwood Close around.

Working with housing provider A2Dominion and developer Rydon, we drew up a new blueprint for the estate with community wellbeing at its heart. Our scheme, comprising over new 300 homes, streets, open spaces and community facilities, was praised by Ealing Council for the quality of its design – scoring the highest in the competition – and its strong emphasis on community involvement and connection to the surrounding neighbourhood.
